NEW YEAR

Camile's I have consecrated: Camile Huxtable, goddess of great moms and centerpieces (yes, I know her name is Claire but she's based on Camile Cosby); Camile Braveman, vanilla version of same and Camile Paglia, mind humper of unexplainable reason for appreciation. The first distinction that comes to mind is during an overwhelmed period when I was in the middle of an enlistment in the USAR, petrified with the nightmare of activation into Viet Nam and over my head in a philosophy course labeled Aesthetics. I discovered Susan Sontag and at this moment can't remember why she got to me in a big way. Maybe it was "The likelihood that your acts of resistance cannot stop the injustice does not exempt you from acting in what you sincerely and reflectively hold to be the best interests of your community" but I don't think so. I recall being fascinated by thoughtful, insightful understandings from a woman not an outspoken man. Maybe that's why the Pag still gets me even when she's hemorrhaging douche tweets. Living with a working mom whom I idolized leaves me certain at this stage that she could've been a contender and keeps me open for the certitude of like ladies. My sister loved Garbo especially Camile - maybe I should finally watch it and maybe learn something new,
